The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc is one of Barcelona’s most iconic attractions.   Its jets of multicoloured illuminated water defy gravity as 2,600 litres are propelled into the air every second.   The fountain’s flow synchronises with the ambient music that fills the air which makes for an incredibly impressive display.  The best time to arrive is at dusk to allow some time to explore the large complex that surrounds the fountain.
As the fountain is one of Barcelona’s most popular attractions, it does tend to get incredibly busy and crowded so it is a good idea to show up early to get a good vantage point.  Each spectacular shows run every half hour and last for 15 minutes.
Once you have reached the top of Montjuïc hill, you will be rewarded with spectacular views that stretch for miles across Barcelona city; a sight that’s genuinely moving.  If you see one thing in Barcelona, make sure it’s this!
There’s no entrance fee for this unmissable attraction and it’s easily accessible via the metro so it’s worth putting on your itinerary regardless of your budget.  Do bear in mind that the fountains don’t operate on certain days of the week.
